If you have ever looked at Royal Mail post boxes you may have noticed the squiggly letters entwined around each other, that these post boxes usually feature. These are called ciphers and are usually the initials of the monarch. This post box, however , is a bit special. It is a rare "Special" post box installed inside the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool, in 1911 and is still in use today. The cipher here is an entwined design of the letters R and L standing for Royal Liver. I will be doing a follow up post about the Liver Building next.
