Last week it was an honour for me to be invited to take part in an opening ceremony at Liverpool Street Station in London to mark the 200th anniversary of the world's first railway.
A photograph of mine was chosen to be part of an exhibition of a selection of work from the Landscape of the Year competition over the last sixteen years. I have made a seperate post about this photo here. The basis for this photo was a photo walk I did which I have also posted about here.

Liverpool Street Station itself is now 151 years old and recently won the accolade of Britain's busiest train station. It is showing its age and is currently undergoing a restoration of its roof. This should see far more natural daylight filling the huge space created by its ornate cast iron beams and arches.

The effect of the current works can be seen clearly here in the different levels of light in the distance where the work is complete in contrast to the platform areas nearer to the camera.

I will be following up with more photos of the station and some history.
